Violet is a sweet girl who came to New Rattitude as a stray. She is likely around 13 years old with an adorable face and a healthy weight of 13 lbs. She has mild arthritis in her back legs, but that doesn't deter her from walking or jogging around her fenced-in backyard for extensive periods of time. She walks extremely well on a leash and loves nothing better than to be outdoors! She is house-trained and sleeps in her bed at night, next to her foster parents.
Violet's personality and social skills are blossoming slowly but surely with each passing week. Although she enjoys being around her human companions, she has not yet decided whether she wants to be a "lap dog." She doesn't mind being picked up and eagerly greets you at the door, tail wagging away. She gets along well with her three canine siblings, though she's still unsure about playing with them. She is friendly when new people or pet sitters come to the house. She tentative with large number of stairs but is fine with a couple.
We think Violet was born partially deaf. She can hear very loud noises likes hands clapping and dogs barking, but she does not respond to quieter sounds, including human voices. Violet rarely barks, typically only when a stranger comes to the house and her siblings are not there to bark for her. If she wants to get your attention or if she gets excited, she will "speak" by yawning loudly or yelping. She also has mild cataracts in both eyes, but her vision is fine. She does need a prescription ointment placed in each eye once per day for the rest of her life (about $65/month) and prescription eye drops twice per day (about $25/month). She also takes arthritis medication once daily and gabapentin at night to help her sleep as she has had a few short seizures. The seizures have occurred about once a month and last about 10 seconds while she cries loudly, then a little disoriented for about 15 seconds. She may pee in her bed when this happens but otherwise does all her business outside. She will go to the door when she needs to go potty and when in a fenced yard she will scratch to come inside.
Violet is a very special lady looking for her loving home with you. For more photos of her, please visit https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/violetv.
