Meet Mini!







Mini came to us from Sacramento Animal Care Services on December 9th. He is 9 years old and weighs 100 lbs. Mini is a very sweet gentle giant.







The day after Mini arrived at FFF, he was chosen for a two-week Frosted Fling, which has turned into a Foster home! His Foster Mom shares what they have learned about Mini:







"We have decided to foster Mini until he finds a home because he is such a great dog! Mini is so snuggly and silly! He is becoming more playful. He wants to play with our whippet, but she hasn’t wanted to play with him yet. Mini likes playing fetch with stuffed toys. He knows sit, down, and we are currently working on shake. He is a very smart dog!








Mini is the kind of shepherd that bonds tightly with his humans. He’s willing to share his love, but will most likely pick one person to be “his person” as many shepherds do. Right now, that’s me. Mini is glued to me. 




 






I think Mini previously led a sheltered life and wasn’t exposed to a lot of everyday things. He found trash trucks and large delivery trucks to be scary. On trash day last week, we sat in my office bay window and watched the recycling get picked up without fear. We’ve been watching children play on ride-on toys, observing construction workers, and walking down streets with moderate traffic. Mini is getting much better with activity and noises.




 






I think Mini was put outside a lot in his previous life. It took him two weeks before he would willingly go outside in the morning. Now he sleeps through the night on a dog bed in my room and goes straight down to the back door when we get up. He used to try to lay on the couch and avoid going out. Now, he knows I’ll go out with him and let him back in.




 






Mini is reactive to some large dogs. He continues to do well with small dogs. A couple days ago, a man had two small dogs off-leash at the park. They both charged Mini and the owner was only able to recall one of the dogs. Mini was friendly to the little dog that ran up to him.




 






Mini is now 100% housebroken and rings the potty bells if he needs to go out. He 



is not destructive and is fine left alone in the house with my Whippet. He is not a fan of the crate.


 






Mini would benefit from attending an obedience class where he can practice his commands with distractions. He 



has become protective of our home and needs proper introduction to visitors. He would do best in a low-traffic home with older children."
