Meet Licorice, a sweet and scruffy young 1-year-old Border Terrier / Poodle mix who’s ready to leave her tough beginnings behind and step into a life full of love and comfort. Weighing 30 pounds, Licorice came to us frightened and unsure, but she has completely blossomed in a home setting. Once she realized she was safe, her loving and gentle personality began to shine through. Licorice is a low-energy girl indoors, happy to lounge quietly by your side or curl up in a cozy dog bed—one of her favorite spots in the house. She’s polite, quiet, and endearingly attentive, coming to life with a wagging tail whenever you call her name. Though she’s still learning about toys, she already knows how to sit for a treat and happily comes when called. She’s incredibly affectionate and adores belly rubs, attention, and the companionship of both people and other dogs. She appears to be housetrained and sleeps peacefully in her crate overnight as long as she's near her people. Like many young dogs, Licorice does experience some separation anxiety and is still adjusting to being left alone, but she’s shown great promise with time and patience. She enjoys playing with the resident dog in her foster home and has shown friendly interest in children across the fence, making her a great candidate for a home with both kids and other pets. She’s cautious when venturing outside in the dark but shows no signs of fear in the home and has quickly learned routines. She hasn’t yet gone for walks or car rides in her foster home, but her easygoing nature suggests she’ll adapt well to new experiences with gentle guidance. Licorice would thrive in a loving home where she can be near her people and possibly have a canine companion to play with. She’s not a fan of being left outside alone and would prefer to be part of a family who values time together. With her tender heart, sweet soul, and growing confidence, Licorice is ready to become a cherished member of a forever family—could that be yours?
