Meet Hugo, the adorable Frenchie with a heart full of loyalty!
This sweet boy is an excellent companion who will wait patiently by the window for you to return, and once you're home, he loves nothing more than sleeping at your feet while you work or lounging next to you on the couch (though he's learned that the floor is comfy too!). He would love it if you worked from home, or were home often, and makes a fabulous coworker during the day! His favorite activities are wherever his people are. He may even follow you into the shower just to see what you're up to in there. Right now, he is alone 3-4 hours and hangs out in the living room with his foster fur siblings and patiently waits for his humans to return.
Hugo is fully potty trained and would do best in a quieter home, especially one with older, calmer children who understand that Hugo can sometimes may need some space. He's a sensitive soul and will thrive in a home that can give him a calm, structured environment where he feels safe. When the adults in the home are gone, he is happy to follow the older children around, but mainly waits for his "person" to come home.
He’s also a perfect fit for someone who works from home, as he loves to be by your side throughout the day. Hugo enjoys his walks and loves running around the backyard, so if you’ve got a fenced-in yard, he’ll make the most of it. He also loves puppy chew toys and Himalayan chews - so keep a good supply handy!
Now, if you're a family with chickens... those silly birds aren't a match for Hugo. Aside from that, he's good with most dogs he's met of all sizes, but prefers those that are calmer and match his demeanor. He's also good with his foster kitty in the home! He’s a healthy, food-driven little guy who has attended obedience training and knows some basic commands like sit and lay down—just make sure to keep those treats coming for the best results!
His ideal furever home would be in a place where the family is home frequently, or have another confident dog around that will bond with him, show him the ropes, and be his companion until you return. He would like a yard since that is where he likes going potty, if you happen to have one, but if not, he'll stick close by you on a leash! He's a true velcro frenchie and cannot wait to meet you!
Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a
particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.
Bulldogs are a member of the Brachycephalic breed and therefore have a host of health issues that may arise. Because these dogs are new into our rescue, health issues in the future may arise that we are not aware of. Some of these issues are allergies, eye issues, yeast infections, interdigital cysts, slipped disks in their back, breathing problems, among a host of others that can occur at any time or when seasons change. While breed experience is not required, we encourage you to thoroughly research the breed and its financial, medical, and environmental needs to be sure the breed is a good fit for you and your family. It is estimated that the average bulldog owner spends $2,000 per year on medical needs.
Bulldogs are one of the most expensive dogs to own, maintain, and rescue and our adoption fees reflect such expenses. The application process for bulldogs usually moves quite quickly as they are a popular breed, so we ask that adopters do research and be prepared for adoption at the time you submit your application. They are happy, goofy, playful characters and we are excited you are taking the first steps into rescuing one!
This dog requires an application fee. This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void. We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion. Bulldog Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee. Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the bulldog. Our goal is place bulldogs in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the bulldog, we will not approve your application.
