Fence needed? Without exception - Gracie would not do well without secure fences to play and potty. She is an escape artist and is an expert at darting through gates. She does not go far but we are on a farm and there are no road or cars near to our fences. If she lives in suburbia, she needs a very secure fence with no holes along the bottom, and you need to ensure she is safe inside before going out the gate. Alternately, she could live in an apartment that opens only into an interior, enclosed hallway.
Gracie is looking to bond to someone and once that happens, she is not going to leave your side. But it's going to take time.
What kind of home would be best for me? Gracie is looking for a home that will understand her shyness and help her grow into the wonderful little dog we think she can be. She is not afraid of people, but she is not yet close to any of us, either. We think, with time, that will come. She has always, as far as we know, been one of many dogs.
Gracie does not necessarily play with other dogs, but she enjoys the company of other adult dogs who like to hang out. She does not seem to care large or small. She was with many different sizes of dogs and has no real preference as long as those dogs are mature and settled. She isn't much for puppies that want to do zoomies and play roughhouse games. She is a lady.
We have no idea how or if Gracie would transition to an only dog home. First preference will be to homes with another dog in the home. Gracie has always had canine companions.
Gracie will NOT be adopted to a first-time dog owner. She needs experience.
What is my personality like? Quirky, stand offish, a little sassy. One of our caregivers adores Yorkshire terriers and has two of her own. Gracie loves her. How she knows that Leigha is a yorkie person we are not sure, but she knows for sure.
How do I act when I first meet new people? Not a fan thanks. You need to earn her trust.
Other tips and tidbits: Gracie's estimated birthday is 3/17/2019. The original owner was uncertain of the exact age, but this appears right.
We've found out that Gracie LOVES to go for long walks in the woods. If your looking for a walking companion, Gracie says she thinks woods are cool.
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
