Introducing Dexter! Dexter is almost a year old, American English Coonhound! He boasts that signature deep hound bark and howl (no yapping or yipping with this one!), and can be spotted pointing at times. He is a beautiful dog with his red ears and ticking!Dexter is full of playful energy, so a big fenced yard is required to allow him to run and frolic. He also enjoys quality walks (or both!). He has been working on his leash skills and is improving every day. Dexter plays well with other dogs, he is curious and working on his manners. He seeks affection from everyone, dogs and people alike. Dexter likes to chew on antlers and squeaky toys, so having some options around for him will help keep him busy!Despite his 65 pounds, he will crawl up into your lap for a snuggle or at your feet. He is a sound sleeper and does well through the night in his crate. He has not been destructive outside of his crate while his foster family is home, and sleeps while crated during the day. He rides well in the car and can join in any adventure! Dexter is housebroken, neutered, and up to date on his vaccinations. Due to a positive Lyme test, he will be going home with the remainder of his Doxycycline prescription. He has no problem taking his pills with a dollop of peanut butter. Dexter is super smart and knows several commands, including "sit, down, leave it," and is very motivated to learn more. Dexter would complete any family; older children might be better due to his size and energy, (he is not aggressive at all) and showers his companions with love.Dexter will be available on 4/13 from Paws Across Pittsburgh. Put in an application soon because he is a wonderful dog who will bring joy and companionship for many years!
