Meet Chestnut!
8.5 year old Chestnut was adopted from Devore Shelter in March 2023 just in time, as he was scheduled to be euthanized. His loving adopter paid for dental surgery to have six fractured teeth removed and the remaining teeth cleaned. It was her intention to be Chestnut's forever family, but after taking him home, she discovered he couldn't get up the 20 stairs to her front door.
Chestnut was soon diagnosed with arthritis, and even on anti-inflammatory medication, isn't able to do the steps, and at 85 lbs., cannot be carried. She explains:
"I want to preface the following with that I am passionately desperate about this situation, and I am willing to do anything in my power to get this pup into someone's care. Chestnut has been in a boarding facility, in a kennel that is frankly smaller than the one he was in at the shelter. I've been contacting rescue after rescue for help in getting him somewhere safe. I would never take him back to the shelter because as you are likely aware, being a pit bull mix, a senior, and having a medical condition garners slim chances.
Chestnut is super friendly, goofy, and loving. He'll make you laugh with his antics. He can catch treats and toys in the air. He is crate trained, quiet in the home, super treat motivated, and good on leash. Because of his hips, he tires pretty easily and a 15 minute walk is enough for him with the exception of potty breaks. In terms of physical exercise, he is very low maintenance.
Chestnut has been around two small dogs, and he befriended them both. He and the small dog would free-roam my friend's yard, along with her cat. They had no issues. He is not good with big dogs, as far as I know.
Chestnut is the bestest boy."
