URGENT NEW FOSTER OR FOSTER TO ADOPT NEEDED BY MAY 15 // CURRENT FOSTERS MOVING OUT OF STATE
Animal Profile: Alma is an estimated 4-year-old 55 lb spayed female Tripod Husky mix who is in search of her forever home. We don't know much about her backstory except that she was found as a stray with an amputated front forelimb and taken into a Seattle area shelter. She has been assessed to be
Foster Updates: Alma is incredibly sweet, loves her people and is very social. On walks, she loves to greet people and fellow dogs. She does best on a familiar route or with a canine companion on her walk; if solo or on new routes she can need a bit more direction to continue on a new path and will display low confidence. Despite being a Tripod, Alma is very active and athletic. She loves to run and do zoomies and has no issues jumping and playing. Alma is dog social and tends to be submissive when first meeting dogs. She would likely do best in a home with a confident canine companion.
Alma is house-trained and knows basic commands. With routine and structure, she is very relaxed at home and enjoys companionship but is not overly clingy. Her best fit would be a calm environment with a patient leader who has time to build her confidence. She has been very friendly with children but due to her timid quirks (such as excessive licking if she's feeling anxious) she would do best in a calmer household where her boundaries are sure to be respected. Alma is making great progress on crate training and will benefit from ongoing work with crate games and counter conditioning in a new environment. She is going to be a wonderful and loving companion in the right home.
Adoption Info: Alma's adoption fee is $575 which includes spay, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, and microchip with lifetime registration. Adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS if a 501c3 organization.
Animal History: Alma was a stray intake to the SAS on Dec 2, 2024. She was covered in feces and had an amputation with limb preserved, presumably for a prosthetic, so it's likely she had a family who cared about her at some point anyway. She was fostered and then adopted from SAS by a friend of the rescue and then transferred to foster thru DGS to find her 'real' forever home. She is available for adoption in the greater Seattle area.
