From gator's FosterPersonality: extremely inquisitive about the world. If my business partner and I are taking inventory out of boxes or he is dissembling a firearm, Gator is always there to politely look at what you are doing, but is secretly wanting to sniff whatever you are touching. He always wants to be right in the thick of things. I spent two four hour evenings at the rescue department I volunteer at, and during those evenings I was updating the software in the handheld and vehicle mounted radios in the ambulances. The majority of the handhelds were the first go, and Gator calmly laid down underneath a table in the day room while I worked on the sofa and my partner was playing video games. As long as I did not move, he stayed asleep. As soon as I even thought about getting up, he was at my heel, very much like a dog with training, although to him, it seems much more natural, he WANTS to be at your heel. The second evening was upgrading the three ambulances. During this process, I have to be in the cab and have the driver door shut. Mind you, he had never seen me do any of this or seen our ambulances. The first vehicle was in the bay the entire time, and when he lost sight of me in the cab working on my laptop, he did circles around the vehicle trying to find some trace of me. The second and third ambulance I had to have idling in the parking lot. And I had to be in the box for some of the procedure. I left the side door open so he could see me, he stood on the step, but did not get into the box because he was not invited/commanded to do so. While I was in the cab, he stood on the extended running boards to see me working the entire time. He is very playful; he loves playing with his step-brother and sister. He plays very rough, but always has a great time doing so. He loves sticks, balls, frisbee, tug toys, rocks, (probably many other things I have not tried).A customer today remarked he is very “graceful” when he “prances about the store”.As far as energy, I would probably put him at a high-medium to high drive. He will keep playing if you push him, but he has a limit. He does have an off switch. So whether someone wants to throw a ball with him for two hours, hike a few miles, or have a lazy day on the couch or long nap in the afternoon, he is an amazing companion. I would not say he has exhibited alpha-type behaviour, whether that is my lack of observational experience speaking or the way my three dogs tend to be. He does tend to talk more than some Mals I have been around, grumbling rather than growling (that determination took a full month to figure out).If he is near you on a piece of furniture, a body part of his must touch something of yours to have a physical heat connection.Al E.
