Gilbert is a 1 year old sweet neutered boy. He is neutered and up to date on vaccines. Here’s what his foster volunteers say about him:
How would you describe the cat's general personality?
Sweet, loving, social (with humans, including newly met). He only took about 3 days to settle in, during which time he was still very sweet (purring, laying near us, seeking attention). He likes to follow us around and is cutely conversational. We adore him!
Does the cat enjoy being pet?
Yet
If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet?
Head (loves!), back, sides, mid belly
Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?
Paws, base of tail, shaved part of belly (towards the back)
Does the cat come on your lap?
Yes, he loves to be in laps
Does the cat like to be held?
He tolerates it
Does the cat sleep in your bed?
Yes, but not for a long time (moves around)
Does the cat seek your attention?
Yes
Does the cat like to play?
Yes
What are the cat's favorite games and toys?
Feather toy, dangly toys in general, lights (e.g. reflected sunlight)
How vocal is the cat?
Very
What kinds of sounds does the cat make?
“Mrrp,” meow
Does the cat scratch a scratcher?
If no, please explain.
He isn't interested in our cardboard scratcher. He likes to scratch rugs, so we've been trying to redirect him to the carpet-textured scratcher.
Does the cat always use the litter box?
If no, please explain.
Yes
What food and frequency is the cat currently eating?
1/2 can wet food, 1/4 dry food, twice per day. We sometimes add a quarter can of water to the wet food.
Is the cat picky about food?
A little bit, he seems to prefer the pate wet food over the chunks, but he will eat both. His favorite dry food is Purina Cat Chow Naturals.
Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?
No
Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?
Yes, he has grabbed us before with claws out, but that was in the first couple days while we were figuring out his boundaries
Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you?
Yes, a few times (with the grabbing)
Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)?
No
To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?
Social
Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?
He likes small places to hide, but he usually comes when called (after settling in)
He will follow you around everywhere (often)
He loves spending time with us on the couch
He is very talkative and will have “conversations” with us
In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?
He’s very sweet, social, and loving (and adorable!). He likes to cuddle and nap with people. We love how much he talks to us too.
What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?
He sometimes gets overwhelmed with too much petting. He’s a good communicator and we have learned his tells for when he has had enough pets (he will look at your hand, for example) so he hasn't gotten overstimulated again.
He is FIV+, but that should not put people off adopting Gilbert, as most FIV-positive cats can live normal lifespans, and he’s fantastic!
